We’ve worked with hundreds of businesses over 18 years. Rather than having a page of comments from clients, (our team are always humbled to receive testimonials), it may be easier to read a few case-studies from different industries:

Plumbing Services

Within 12 months we installed new systems, adjusted pricing to meet their market and focused on the margins in their specialised work...

Background:
Client was in the Trade services sector. Their key frustration was a lack of direction and excitement in their business.  They had a feeling of “same old, same old” year after year but not making any progress and not having an “end game” to work towards. This was amplified due to some health related issues arising and a desire to retire in the next 15 years to enjoy life, while still young and able.  They thought focusing more on their numbers might be a good first step and so asked their accountant for help.  Their accountant suggested a business coach and so they attended an information session arranged by their accountant.

Analysis:
Analysis showed they had poor productivity due to lack of systems and their ability to measure this was difficult.  They were also suffering margin squeeze through discounting and “mates rates” that were no longer viable.  We calculated that this was costing them 100k/year.

Outcome:
Within 12 months we installed new systems, adjusted pricing to meet their market and focused on the margins in their specialised work.  This resulted in an accumulation of a 3 months cash surplus in their bank account which gave them the confidence to bring their wife into the business fulltime and escape a job she hated (and also meant they survived Covid lockdowns!).  They also were able to reduce their working week to 30hrs whilst increasing their revenue.  This gave them time to focus on health, allow their body to recover and plan to transition the owner out of the business so it could operate without him and allow him to retire with income.

Pharmacist

Analysis showed this was costing them $800k in lost revenue...

Background:

Client was in the Community Pharmacy sector.  Their key frustration was that they were working 7 days a week and had no time for family or themselves!  There was plenty of turnover in the business but this wasn’t getting to the bottom line nor servicing their large debt.  This was causing frustrations at home and undervaluing the business which they intended to sell in the next 5yrs.  They had reached out to colleagues, mentors and leaders in their industry but were told that is “just the way it is in this industry” so came to us for an alternate view.

Analysis:

Analysis showed they had outdated workflows, overstocking, poor delegation systems and a complacent workforce that was working at full capacity.  Analysis showed this was costing them $800k in lost revenue.

Outcome:

We liquidated over stocked and poor performing lines freeing up $60,000 in cash. Within 6mths we had introduced new workflow procedures which created a 30% gain in workflow efficiency.  The combination of cash and time allowed us to introduce additional paid health services which increased revenue and local reputation as a health destination.  We also trained existing staff and hired new team members to allow a 40% increase in processing capacity, which they filled within 3mths.  Within 3mths they had paid down an additional $100k in debt, reached the Top 10 in their franchise group and reduced their worked week to 4days.  Within 2yrs they had increased their turnover to $12m and tripled the valuation of their business.

Legal Services

There was also an issue with margins due to an in-balance of pro-bono and low margin work. We calculated this was costing them at least $200k/year...

Background:
Client was in the Professional Services Sector. Their key frustrations were a lack of profitability and cash shortages every quarter at BAS time.  Their desire was to build enough profitability to bring the owner/principal’s husband into the business fulltime as his current role was remote and caused large blocks of time away from the family and important milestone moments being missed.  They were looking for some ideas and received a recommendation from their bookkeeper to have a chat to us.

Analysis:
Analysis showed they had an issue with team productivity from systems not being followed and performance not being measured. There was also an issue with margins due to an in-balance of pro-bono and low margin work. We calculated this was costing them at least $200k/year.

Outcome:
Over 6 months we installed new systems, reporting and team accountability.  We also created a reliable system for generating leads and referrals to high margin work.  This resulted in a $90k improvement year on year in the first 6mths and enough cashflow and margin to bring the husband into the business as a fulltime practice manager.  3mths later they doubled the size of their office and added 2 additional team members to match demand.

Management Consultant

Within 3 months we had created a calendar of bookings 2 months in advance...

Background:
Client was in the management consulting sector. Their key frustration was not having enough cash, leads and direction. This was causing them stress because there was no reliable way to generate leads and progress the business. They had tried just working harder but weren’t getting any traction and felt burnt out and disheartened.  After a networking event they heard about business coaching and so decided to reach out to us for help to find a solution.

Analysis:
Analysis showed they had an issue with underused capacity from poor marketing and inefficiencies from poor team productivity and lack of clarity on important numbers.  Software analysis showed this was costing them $90k/year.

Outcome:
Within 3 months we had created a calendar of bookings 2 months in advance by focusing on existing customers and introducing a simple marketing and sales process which also freed up enough time for a month long holiday.  Upon return we used surplus funds to expand the team and further relieve the owner from the “boring” day to day tasks leaving more family time and capacity to concentrate on expansion and growth.

Manufacturing Services

The improvement has allowed the client to create an additional $200k in the first year...

Background:
Client was in the Manufacturing Industry. Their key challenge was a lack of leadership within the existing team which was preventing the current partners from being able to transition out of the business so it could be sold.  This was causing anxiety for the partners and uncertainty within the existing team around job security.  They had tried hiring business coaches in the past and had talked to their accountant but had not found a solution.  They decided to sit down for a Strategy Session and map out a plan for the future.

Analysis:
Analysis showed they had an issue with underused capacity from poor marketing and a high reliance on a single large customer.  Their productivity was also low due to numerous workflow interruptions and emergency work.  Software analysis showed that this was costing them $70k annually.

Outcome:
After 12 months we had installed new systems and trained a senior leadership team to replace the owners in the day-to-day running of the business.  This resulted in an additional 2 days free which one partner used to start a complementary business.  The improvement has allowed the client to create an additional $200k in the first year and the existing business to turn a profit for the first time in 2 years.
